metamorphosis — bronze sculpture by ivo meier

metamorphosis: the human form mid-transition, cast in bronze.

a moment where two paths first begin to resonate.

metamorphosis (2001) is a key work from my early practice — a moment where my origins in figurative sculpture and my later path already begin to resonate. i come from figurative sculpture — from closely observing the human, shaping inner states, and searching for a form for what cannot be shown directly. even today, within my abstract practice, i return to this place again and again. these works are like finger exercises of a pianist: quiet, concentrated movements that sharpen perception, keep the hand awake, and refine the gaze.

metamorphosis carries this tension within itself: the human form in transformation, the figure beginning to dissolve, an early echo of the language that would later become central to my sculptural work. a piece that quietly, but unmistakably, marks a transition.

about this sculpture

metamorphosis is an early key work within my sculptural practice, created during a formative period shaped by figurative sculpture. the piece reflects my ongoing exploration of the human form, transformation, and the subtle tension between figuration and abstraction. it offers insight into the foundations of my artistic language and the transition that would later define my abstract and digital work.

as a work rooted in traditional bronze sculpture, it connects my early studies of human presence and inner movement with the conceptual direction my practice would eventually take. understanding this piece provides a deeper view into the evolution of my artistic path.
